Ume
Is the name of othe Top Japanese executive who we entertained yesterday, Friday.
First my old boss and I hoped into the company
Sequia
and sped over to pick up 3 execs from Japan. They were perfect, as if
they steped out of a movie. One of them Matzu, was skinny and dorky
with an excitedly timid smile on his face, and the Michael Jackson
flood pants going. The other, his name escapes me (started with a K),
was older and mostly zenlike silent. They were waiting on the last one,
obviously the Alpha. He appeared in tight designer jeans and long,
extreemly well kept black hair. He had gentil, small, feminie features,
like a character from
an anime film. That was Ume. They all had cameras around their necks. priceless.
First we went to
Digital domain.
Possable the best reel I have ever seen. When I said this to a creative
we at lunch with, he said bitterly, "sure, when you can have the
titanic sinking, and Apollo 13 taking of and New York freezeing over in
your reel, it tends to impress."
I met the CEO, he said he worked for Goerge Lucas, but started his own
company because they had religious differences. ("Lucus thought he was
God, I didnt agree").
Then we had lunch at Napa Valley Grill, I had a raw fish sandwitch, that plegged me for the rest of the day.
We then went upstairs to
Sway.
Another, smaller, CG house, no Titanics there. But they did have the
most amazing. wonderful. simple. breakthropugh. That is about to
seriously change both vido-games and car commercials. I wish I could
talk about it. WOW.
Then off to Universal Studios to watch some of the filming of "ageing"
the latest Tundra spot. Huddled around kraft services. Got tended to,
as the client. I like being the client, no wonder they act like this.
Then the VIP tour, I think they sent the most attractive guide they
could find. As trams full \of the unimportant slithered by, we got to
walk around the old sets, touch the walls and historic sets, and oogle
the plane crash scene from "War of the Worlds."
Then we ate at the BB King grill.I think they enjoyed themselves. And I even think they liked me.
